Deuteronomy 6:4–5

“Hear, O Israel: Yehovah our God is one Yehovah: And thou shalt love Yehovah thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”

This is the Shema. It is not just a verse to recite. It is a re-centering of the soul. Before I belong to my schedule, I belong to Yehovah. Before I answer the demands of the day, I remember the One who gave me the day.

Why the Morning Matters

Scripture repeatedly connects the morning with seeking Yehovah:

Psalm 5:3

“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Yehovah; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”

Morning alignment is not about earning favor. It is about setting direction. The first voice we listen to often determines the spirit we carry through the day. If the first voice is fear, we carry fear. If the first voice is outrage, we carry outrage. If the first voice is Yehovah, we carry covenant.

Most people give the world the first ten minutes of the day — and then wonder why the rest of the day feels uncentered. Torah teaches that the first moment belongs to Yehovah. Everything that follows flows from that.

A Simple Morning Practice
  • Speak the Shema before reaching for a phone
  • Acknowledge Yehovah as King — the day is His before it is yours
  • Offer the day to Him: your schedule, your words, your reactions
  • Ask for wisdom to walk in obedience, not just in competence
  • Choose one commandment or scripture principle to carry with you today
  • A simple prayer: “Father, let Your Word govern my thoughts, my speech, and my actions today. Help me walk in covenant instead of impulse.”
Restoration Connection

Latter-day Saints should immediately recognize this pattern. The Restoration has always emphasized daily prayer, remembrance, and intentional discipleship.

“Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good.” — Alma 37:37

That is morning alignment. Not merely asking God to bless our plans — but inviting Him to shape them. There is a difference between asking Yehovah to approve what you already decided and asking Him to direct what you are about to decide. The first keeps you in charge. The second surrenders the day to covenant.

Morning alignment is simply refusing to let the world disciple you before the Word does. Start the day under covenant. Then walk from there.
